What a brilliant night at The DW Stadium to celebrate and recognize the achievements of local volunteers from the Wigan area.
More than 400 people attended the event, which had all the glitz and glamour that it demanded. With 6 awards being given, and lots of entertainment, the evening was a huge success, and a real credit to the guys who put so much effort into organizing and coordinating the event.
“Our Stars” awards included Community Champion, Impact on Disability, Inspiring Person, Lifetime Achievement, Volunteer Of The Year and Young Leader. – with all nominees recognized with certificates for their achievements, and the overall category winners receiving a beautiful Our Stars award trophy.
I had great fun capturing shots of the night, starting with all the guests arriving at the stadium where we got lots of lovely group and family portraits, and then the actual awards presentations. It was really quite inspiring to see so many genuine people being recognized for what they do, with lots of emotion on display. People who do what they do because they want to – none of these celebrity folk who live in the lime light and like being in the public eye. It was just heart warming to see the un-sung heroes having their moment in the spotlight.
After the awards were given, the party started, with an amazing young singer performing, followed by a soul trio performing a number of hits. Then the DJ got people on the dance floor to dance into the small hours. There was also a “selfie” photo booth with props for a bit of dress up fun.
Working with Vicki and Sam from SKILS CIC who organized the event, it was very apparent that they have a real passion for what they do, and this was reflected in how well received the evening was. Hopefully it will become an annual event, and a very worthy one at that.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to be asked to get involved, and for that I am very grateful. Here are some of the highlights from the evening.
